Work Examples

PAINT ABRASION TESTING BRUSH

Known for their paints, coatings and speciality chemicals; Akzo Nobel contacted Cottam Technical Solutions to assist with the development of a specialist brush which would assess the durability of their paint films in an automated system. Following extensive in-house testing, a brush was designed which ensured an agreed degree of uniformity across the nylon bristles.

HELPING ENDANGERED EUROPEAN EELS

HELPING ENDANGERED EUROPEAN EELS An innovative solution to preserve an endangered species. Eel passes are installed to assist eel migration around man made obstacles in rivers. Traditional eel passes are rigid and do not allow for tidal fluctuations or changes in water levels. We worked collaboratively with the ENVIRONMENT AGENCY to develop a flexible backed brush designed to accommodate variations in the positioning of the fish ladder.

WATER TREATMENT WEIR BRUSHES

The resulting Quick Change Weir Brush has been met with much relief by plant managers and maintenance teams alike. “The Cottam Brush cleans the launder channel much better and we are able to reduce the time spent on changing the brushes due to the quick release carrier head bracket. We can also remove the brush and turn it around to get extra life out of the brush heads” comments one satisfied team leader. The Quick Change Weir Brush will bring significant cost saving. The average changeover time is reduced from approx 8 hours to 1 hour. In addition the design of the brush enables each site to store one multipurpose brush which can fit in any required position.

Client Testimonials

“We were very impressed with the operation, look and quick change aspect of the brushes. The technical team knew exactly what we wanted and the installation was done methodically and with great expertise.”

- Bob Patterson, Northumbrian Water

“We contacted Cottam to design a solution which would provide the same excellent level of performance while adapting to changing environmental and spatial conditions. They developed a solution which is not only effective but can be customised to any installation"

- Andy Don, Environment Agency

"The brush is used to assess the durability of paint films in an automated system. Due to the nature of the tests involved consistency was of vital importance and we have been very satisfied with them. Both the service in design and the value for money has impressed me greatly."

- Nicholas Wickstead, Project Chemist, AKZO Nobel
